Life in an ABBA song

I have a dream, a song to sing
To help me cope with anything
If you see the wonder of a fairy tale
You can take the future even if you fail
I believe in angels
Something good in everything I see
I believe in angels
When I know the time is right for me
I'll cross the stream - I have a dream

Some of you are too young to know or care about the Swedish Pop Group, ABBA.  Some of you danced to the remixes of Dancing Queen and Lay All Your Love On Me (Erasure and Tribute cds) in college and some of you danced in the living room to their 8 Tracks.  Ya, I said it!  8-Tracks!!!  When I hear an ABBA song, memories flood my brain.  I am instantly happy.  I sing along.  Happy.  I secretly dance while vacuuming, as I have my iPod running the entire ABBA box set.  Contentment.  Who would have thought cleaning the house would be this much fun?

There are songs about happiness and love and heart-break and sadness; fun, memories, friendships, dreams, and all the good stuff that a song can possibly contain.  One of my favorite movies of all time is Muriel's Wedding.  If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it!  It's about a young girl, who saw herself as nothing, was told she was nothing and believed it, but through a friend, some gumption and her ABBA songs, she found out who she was (through thick and thin).  "Mamma Mia", the musical, has been out since 1999 and as we've seen in the musical (and recently in film), life can truly be told in an ABBA song.  Some people may say that life should be more than just a song, but even the most simple songs have so many intricacies.  The words, the melody, the harmonies, the bridge, the intro, the instruments all weaving together to produce a sense of happiness in the soul.

"Standing calmly at the crossroad, no desire to run.
There's no hurry anymore, when all is said and done."

So, (if you're an ABBA fan) what ABBA song tells a story in your life?  Break out the old LPs, or cds, iTunes library, or if you're a die hard, pull out the 8 track and find your favorite ABBA song.  Play it. Play it Again.  Sing at the top of your lungs.  Smile and be happy that something as simple as a song from a 70's pop group can flood your mind of memories and you can find life again in an ABBA song!  I've always related to "Thank you for the music".  My life is in this song and I turn around and thank ABBA for all the music they sang and wrote.  I will always be a fan and always see my life in an ABBA song.

"I'm nothing special, in fact I'm a bit of a bore
If I tell a joke, you've probably heard it before
But I have a talent, a wonderful thing
'Cause everyone listens when I start to sing
I'm so grateful and proud
All I want is to sing it out loud

So I say
Thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing
Thanks for all the joy they're bringing
Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance what are we?
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me"
